After losing their first five matches in the UAE, Mumbai Indians (MI) came up with a tremendous display in the India leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and picked up seven wins, the last of which came in the very final match of the league stages of IPL 2014.

Mumbai, needing to get 190 in 14.3 overs to qualify for the playoffs, got to 189 in 14.3 overs. What this meant was that they needed a boundary off the next ball to qualify. The moment Aditya Tare hit that ball for six, virtually every supporter at Wankhede exulted in glee. The protagonist of the last-ball six, Aditya Tare, invoked the spirit of many a football star, by covering his head with his t-shirt and running down the ground. The members of the Mumbai Indians team ran onto the ground and embraced Corey Anderson and Aditya Tare.

Ambati Rayudu, who only a moment ago had broken down because he had thought MI failed to qualify, was ecstatic while talking to Danny Morrison after the match. There was much hugging as well, as Sachin Tendulkar embraced Lendl Simmons, Nita Ambani embraced first Rohit Sharma, then Kieron Pollard, Corey Anderson and Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan in fact lifted Nita Ambani in the air as both rejoiced their incredible victory.
