South Africa Women’s captain, Mignon du Preez, has called for more Test cricket. Du Preez led the South Africa Women recently in a Test against India Women in Mysore, which was won by the hosts. She feels that though Women may not play too many Tests a year, they certainly need to play one or two a year.
Du Preez was quoted by sport24.co.za, “Women’s cricket and Test cricket is something we’d like to do more often, hopefully once or twice a year. I don’t think our bodies are ready like the men to play two or three in a row yet, but it would be nice.”
Hilton Moreeng, the South Africa Women’s coach, was happy with his team’s performance against India despite their loss to India. “The way we adapted as the Test match wore on, especially from our captain, was good to see with her maiden Test century. It was a good lesson for us over the four days. With the eight debutants it was good to see how the team is growing in this kind of format.”
South Africa Women will now play India Women in the three One-Day Internationals (ODIs), which form a part of the ICC Women’s Championship. The three games will be played in Bangalore.
