Former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin will be honoured by the English county team Derbyshire. Azharuddin played for Derbyshire for three years from 1991-1994, and was one of the most popular cricketers in the county. Azharuddin, who played 99 Tests and 334 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) for India from 1984 till 2000, had a successful stint with Derbyshire. In 31 matches, Azharuddin scored 2,828 runs at an average of 54.56 and slammed nine centuries and 11 half-centuries. Azharuddin was quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror, “It felt good to be back in Derby where I played more than two decades ago. I am thankful to the council for the felicitation and what they are call it a homecoming. I am thankful to them.”
The event to honour Azharuddin will be organised on Friday afternoon. “Our director will be there and so will be the personnel from the media.
