Mohammad Hafeez, the Pakistan allrounder, will have his bowling action tested in an International Cricket Council (ICC) accredited lab in Chennai on July 6, after the ICC granted an extension of two days from his earlier deadline of July 4. The visa he had to be granted for his travel to India was delayed, due to which the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had sent an appeal to the ICC to extend the deadline. The visa has been granted, on Wednesday, and Hafeez will stay with his team, currently in the middle of a Test series in Sri Lanka, till the day of the test, as reported by ESPNcricinfo. The action of the offspinner was questioned by the umpires in the Galle Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, on June 21. As this is the second caution raised on his action in the last two years — the bend in his arm was declared to be above the 15-degree limit in December last year, and he was cleared, after testing, in April this year — he will not be allowed to bowl for a year if his action is found to be illegal this time.

The deadline of July 4 was in accordance with ICC’s protocol of having the testing done within 14 days of being reported. Hafeez bowled in the first Test after having been called, as he is allowed to do so until the results of the official tests are out. He will not participate in the third (and final) Test against Sri Lanka, which has its playing days from July 3 to July 7.
