It was another century for MS Dhoni and this time in front of the place where he is worshipped — in Chennai. His match winning 79 helped India go up 1-0 in the series against Australia. Dhoni became the fourth Indian to achieve 100 international fifties and in doing so he became the fourth Indian to the mark after —Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. Dhoni also became only the second wicketkeeper-batsman after Kumar Sangakkara to reach this feat. Tendulkar took to Twitter to welcome Dhoni to the club, “Yet another 100 for @msdhoni! This time in front of the stumps! Congratulations on a century of 50s Mahi.”
Dhoni along with his partner Hardik Pandya helped India rise to the occasion by building a 118-run stand for sixth wicket. Dhoni slammed an unbeaten 88-ball 79 to put up a strong total after flurry of wickets.
Dhoni found his name on the record books becoming the 13th cricketer in international cricket to get to a ton of 50s. India were in dire need of runs as they were in shambles at 87 for 5. Dhoni has now played 6 ODIs in this ground and has assimilated 401 runs at an average of 100.25. He has 2 ODI hundreds in this ground and his only Test double century too came at Chepauk.
As for IPL, he has led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to two titles in 2010 and 2011. Apart from these, CSK have finished as runners-up as many as four times in IPL, all under his captaincy. As the CSK song goes, “Enga thala Dhoniku periya whistle adinga.”
