Scenes of unbridled joy after the Indian cricket team’s march to the 2011 World Cup title had been caricatured by a man named Shankar, who happens to be a Colonel, and, more importantly, a “good friend” of captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni who engineered the historic triumph.
“It was Dhoni. He is a good friend and he gave me the idea sometime during the World Cup to get caricatures done,” said Shankar, on the sidelines of the inaugural Golf Premier League, at the Aamby Valley Golf Course.
Shankar was seen presenting the golfers, participating in the franchise-based event, their caricatures.
“I get them done for other sports also, including golf,” he added with a bit of twang.
England’s Simon Dyson, who is a member of the Colombo 6′s team in the GPL, was delighted to see his caricature after the day’s play that he wanted to take one home.
Also, all along, radiating joy and enthusiasm was Shankar.
“That’s fantastic,” Dyson said in appreciation.
Shankar is from Chennai, who is based in Pachmarhi cantonment in Madhya Pradesh.
Part of the table, near the tournament office facing the driving range, was full of pages, even as Shankar invited the golfers one after another to get the caricatures signed by them.
Shankar, who was happily getting clicked with all the golfers, has also got a book solely dedicated to caricatures of sportspersons released.
