Since the start of 500th Test, which was also the first between India and New Zealand of the three-match series, few Indian cricketers came up with their All-Time XI from India’s Test history and Sanjay Manjrekar, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan were among them. All of the Dream XIs were quite similar to each other with only few differences. On this occasion, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) came up with a unique idea of fans’ dream team instead of someone else’s. BCCI gave the opportunity to fans by asking them to vote for their best players. Well, cricketers picking their best XI is quite common while fans’ All-Time XI surely made for an interesting read. Though, both players and fans’ team are also quite same but there is one thing which may surely surprise.

The team starts with two greatest openers of India — Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag followed by Rahul Dravid at number three. The middle-order consists of India’s greatest batsman ever — Sachin Tendulkar along with VVS Laxman and all-rounder Kapil Dev. MS Dhoni has been elected as the skipper and wicketkeeper of the side.

The bowling departments includes two main spinners — Anil Kumble and Ravichandran Ashwin with two pacers — Javagal Srinath and Zaheer Khan. Surprisingly, Yuvraj Singh enters the team as 12th man. The southpaw has never done well in Tests but since it’s a people’s choice team, there can be no question.

Talking about the percentage of votes, Dravid got most votes with 96% followed by Kumble with 92%, Kapil Dev with 91% and Dhoni 90% followed closely. These are the only four players to get more than 90% votes.

Fans’ Dream-Team: Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Kapil Dev, Ms Dhoni, Ravichandran Ashwin, Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan, 12th man Yuvraj Singh.
