The script did not change in the penultimate ODI between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. The Afghanistan spinners have humiliated the opposition and have taken their side on the cusp of a series win. Mujeeb Zadran, Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi shared 9 scalps between them to dominate proceedings. Set to chase 135, Afghanistan should get there without sweating much.

Apart from the toss, nothing has gone in Zimbabwe’s favour since morning. Dawlat Zadran and Mujeeb commenced proceedings. While Dawlat was on the money from ball one, Mujeeb removed the openers, Solomon Mire and Hamilton Masakadza cheaply. Zimbabwe were reduced to 74 for 5 inside 20 overs as senior professionals, Nabi and Rashid, chipped in too. Zimbabwe were left shell-shocked against the slower bowlers, and have plenty to worry about ahead of World Cup Qualifiers.

Mujeeb was on a hat-trick at one point, and missed it by a whisker. He picked up 5 for 50, his maiden five-wicket haul. At 16 years 325 days he also became the youngest to take an ODI five-wicket haul; nobody else has done it below even 18.

Barring Craig Ervine (54*) and Brendon Taylor, no Zimbabwe batsmen showed willingness to fight it out in the middle. Their bowlers have a huge task to make a match out of this contest, which looks all but over for now.

Brief scores

Zimbabwe 134 in 38 overs (Brendan Taylor 30, Craig Ervine 54*; Mujeeb Zadran 4 for 49, Mohammad Nabi 2 for 18, Rashid Khan 2 for 28) vs Afghanistan.
