After losing their captain Gautam Gambhir early in the second over of the innings, the Kolkata Knight Riders have rode on the steady partnership between Jacques Kallis and Manish Pandey to reach 78 for the loss of one wicket at the end of the 12th over against Mumbai Indians in this ongoing opening encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014.
The two batsmen have stitched a 74-run partnership, as the Mumbai bowlers have managed to keep things quiet by maintaining some tight line and length. After the pacers got them off to a good start, Pragyan Ojha and Harbhajan Singh continued the good work. Pandey seemed a little more fluent in his shot making than Kallis.
After Lasith Malinga clean bowled Gambhir in the second over for zero, Kallis was joined by Pandey. The two of them took some time to get going, but then Pandey hit a four and six off consecutive deliveries off Corey Anderson in the fourth over to break some shackles.
