Mumbai: Dec 22, 2013
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP ) leader Gopinath Munde on Sunday compared Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi with Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar. Munde, who had fought the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) elections against Sharad Pawar, told Modi is the new Tendulkar, according to FirstPost.
Munde said, “Though Sachin Tendulkar has retired, we have a new Sachin Tendulkar in the form of Narendra Modi.”
Tendulkar retired last month after playing his 200th Test against West Indies. The Gujarat Chief Minister had said earlier, “The country feels proud of Sachin. Every Indian is proud of taking Sachin’s name. With his hard work, sincerity, dedication and countless efforts, Sachin has achieved new records in the game.”
Modi is in Mumbai for the ‘Maha-Garjna Rally’ ahead of 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He is BJP’s prime ministerial candidate.
Tendulkar, regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in the world along with Sir Donald Bradman, has scored 15,921 Test runs. In his final Test at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, he scored 74.
