Simon Helmot, former Victoria coach, has been appointed as Bangladesh batting coach for the upcoming Nidahas Trophy. The tournament that will be played between India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka will begin from March 6. Bangladesh had made some changes in their support staff recently with Courtney Walsh appointed as interim head coach.

Just like Walsh has been associated with Bangladesh as fast bowling coach since 2016, Helmot was also part of the Bangladesh support staff during Sri Lanka’s visit to the Bangladesh. In 2016, he was appointed as Bangladesh’s high performance coach. Helmot holds vast coaching experience. He has coached Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL.

Meanwhile, the team will have their regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan back in the helm despite a niggling finger injury that forced him out of the recent Sri Lanka series. Off-spinner Mehedi Hasan will fill in as back-up.

Bangladesh will be playing their first match of the tournament against India on March 8 at Colombo.

Bangladesh squad: Shakib Al Hasan (c), Mahmudullah Riyad (vc), Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Imrul Kayes, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Sabbir Rahman, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Abu Hider, Abu Jayed, Ariful Haque, Nazmul Islam, Nurul Hasan, Mehedi Hasan.
