In the virtual semi-final clash of Nidahas Trophy 2018 between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, scenes were out of hand before Mahmudullah’s heroics sealed the deal for visitors. As a result, Bangladesh take on India in the final of Nidahas Trophy 2018. Bangladesh have been slammed left, right and center for their on-field behaviour following Friday’s victory. Bangladesh Cricket Board’s chief, Nazmul Hasan, termed the players’ altercations as ‘unprofessional’. Ironically, he has also set a reward prize money for the national team, of INR 1 crore, for qualifying to the final. The amount will increase if they beat India on Sunday.

In an interaction with The Daily Observer, Nazmul stated, “The players approach during the final over of the match (against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium) was not professional at all and they did not behave properly. At present we are not taking any decision whether further action would be taken by the BCB but once we go home (after Sunday’s final), they will be called for the explanation.”

On the prize money announced shortly after the controversial episode, BCB president said, “It will be distributed among all team members and the support staff.

It remains to be seen as a million dollar question whether was it a right time (when his team was embroiled in the controversy) to announce the prize money.

Defending the timing of announcing the prize money, Nazmul added, “It is for the team’s performance and they made it to the final. If they again win against India, the prize money would be further increased.”

Team India didn’t watch the entire match on television. They were invited by the Taj Hotel management for a dinner, which was also attended by several luminaries.
