KL Rahul, who replaced Rishabh Pant in the fourth T20I of Nidahas Trophy 2018, added an unwanted record to his name. He became the first Indian batsman (and 10th overall) to be dismissed hit wicket in T20Is, against Sri Lanka on Monday. Rahul went deep inside his crease while facing Jeevan Mendis, who was bowling his second over of the innings. In the process, he accidentally dislodged the bails with his right foot. Rahul scored a 17-ball 18 in a rain-delayed match. This was Rahul’s first match in the shortest format since his outing Sri Lanka in December. He had scored 61, 89, and 4 in that three-match series. Rahul was part of the T20I squad against South Africa but was not included in the XI.

Rahul joined an ‘elite’ list that comprises of cricketers names like AB de Villiers, Dinesh Chandimal, Misbah-ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez. The first Indian to be dismissed hit wicket in Tests was Lala Amarnath in 1949, and in ODIs, it was Nayan Mongia in 1995.
