Younis Khan will miss the rest of the ongoing three-match One-Day International series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka after receiving news of his nephew’s death on Monday. Younis will be returning to his native country with immediate effect.
Younis, who scored an impressive 177 in the first innings of the first Test against the Lankas at Galle earlier in the tour, has had to deal with several such tragedies within his family in the past. His father passed away in 2005, causing him to miss the tour of Australia. Later that year, his eldest brother Mohammed Sharif Khan died in a car accident in Ukarine.
In the following year, he had barely recovered from the double emotional blows when this time, he received news of elder brother Farman Ali Khan passing away in a car accident in Germany. He lost yet another family member in 2011 when Shamshad Khan, another of his older brothers passed away when he was with the Pakistan team in West Indies. He was permitted by his board to miss the two-Test series.
