Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has mourned the untimely demise of young Australian batsman Phil Hughes, who today succumbed to his head injury after getting hit by a bouncer during a domestic match in Sydney.
“His loss will no doubt be a blow to world of cricket”, Nishantha Ranatunga, SLC Secretary said.
Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews said, “We are saddened and shocked at Phil Hughes’ untimely death. Hughes was a terrific young player and we found him to be a very cheerful and friendly person”.
Hughes toured Sri Lanka in August 2011 and scored a century in the final Test to help Australia win the three-match series 1-0.
