Talk of Ashish Nehra, and you are invariably reminded of injuries. In his 18-year-long career, as he claimed on ‘Breakfast with Champions’, he must have spent the same amount of time off the field due to injury as playing on it, if not more. Despite being injury-prone, Nehra has time and again proved to be a match-winner for India and has shown indomitable spirit to come back to the team with his performance every time. As Nehra-ji nears the twilight of his career, here are six quotes which prove he was an absolute cool dude of the Indian cricket team

1. Facing off

Being omitted from the national team despite impressive performances in domestic circuit is one disappointment that leaves a sour mark on cricketers, but Nehra handled that with a wide (pun intended) smile:

2. No dawn of nude era

There was a popular dialogue from a Bollywood movie that said that everyone has a selling price. This does not hold true for Nehra-ji: he announced that he will never ever walk naked — even if offered INR 10 crores. However, matters change if he is allowed to wear underwear:

3. One left arm, two left feet

Nehra, who resembles a beanpole and celebrates like an airplane run after bagging a wicket, is not among the best of dancers and he has no problem admitting that.

4. He is dentally strong

They say, “One man uses his tongue; another, his teeth”. But Nehra-ji uses both to make us laugh:

5. Shane on you!

Stepping out and hitting a six is often considered a show of bravery. However, Nehra-ji tells us a different story altogether:

6. Lord at Lord’s

A six that clears Lord’s can overshadow the woes of losing a Test. Ask Ashish Nehra and he will tell you:

As the fun-to-be-with Nehra retires from international cricket after November 1, here’s wishing him an even more happy and successful life going forth.
