The three teams who will vie for the one hundred thousand dollar McDonald’s Super Smash prize purse have been found, after a thrilling final round of Twenty20 matches.

The Wellington Firebirds have stormed into the playoffs courtesy of an epic Super Over victory against the Otago Volts at the Basin Reserve this afternoon.

With the Central Stags already assured top spot, the Firebirds pulsating win boosted them to 20 points and into a three-way tie for the remaining two qualifying spots with the Canterbury Kings, and the Auckland Aces, who eventually lost to the Stags on Duckworth Lewis by 11 runs in the later game at Eden Park Outer Oval on Tuesday.

Wellington’s superior net run rate helping them claim second spot and the home Elimination Final on Thursday at the Basin Reserve at 4.10pm live on SKY Sport.

There they will face the Kings, who squeezed out the Aces for the third and final qualifying place by 0.01 on net run rate, as the calculators came out in an exciting finish to the 30 game round robin.

The Central Stags, who had already qualified first with a round to spare, will host the winner of the Elimination Final in the Grand Final at Pukekura Park on Saturday at 4.10pm on SKY Sport.
