Off-spinner Prosper Utseya became the second Zimbabwe player to take a hat-trick in a One-Day International match. He dismissed Quinton de Kock, Rilee Rossouw and David Miller in the third ODI of the triangular series at Harare. He is the second Zimbabwean to get the honour after Eddo Brandes. Utseya is only the second bowler to take a hat-trick against South Africa after Lasith Malinga ran riot in the ICC World Cup 2007. Below is how Utseya’s 27th over unfolded.

Dismissal 1: Quinton de Kock

De Kock looks to reverse sweep, the ball flies in the air, Tendai Chatara at short-thirdman does well to jump backwards and catches this with one-hand. Zimbabwe finally get rid of the other opener.

Dismissal 2: Rilee Rossouw

Utseya gets a sharp turn, Rossouw looks to block it off the back foot, the ball takes the outside edge of the bat and flies in the hands of Nyumbu in slips, who takes a good low catch. Rossouw has bagged a golden duck in consecutive innings since debut.

Dismissal 3: David Miller

It was a flighted delivery on middle stump, Miller leans on the front foot to defend, misses and is struck plumb in front. Utseya is delighted.

What followed…

  • Utseya had earlier bowled Hashim Amla which was followed by the hat-trick. Utseya also dismissed JP Duminy two and bagged a five-for.

  • This is the first five-for Utseya has bagged in his career. His previous best bowling performance before this was four for 38 against Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2010.
