The Pakistan Super League’s (PSL) 2017 exciting clash between the table-toppers Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators was called off with a point shared between the teams due to rain. This does not affect the points table in anyway so Quetta’s hope to claim the No. 1 spot in the table is dashed out as well. The rain loomed over the desert with the overs and target continuing to be reduced. Put to bat first, Zalmi’s on and off 16-overs innings due to rains ended on a high note with target of 118 set against Quetta. Tamim Iqbal’s blistering unbeaten knock of 46-ball 62 steered Zalmi to 117.

Tamim was in complete command with 4 fours until the rain interrupted for the first time with 3.4 overs being bowled. The players were back and the game tilted towards Quetta with three successive wickets of Mohammad Hafeez, Kamran Akmal and Eoin Morgan. That’s when Maqsood joined hands with Tamim and scored unbeaten 75-run stand for the fourth wicket. However, the rains continued to threaten the game for the second time, eventually reducing the match to 18 overs. Mohammad Nawaz came to bowl in the 13th over, until rains played spoilsport once again. PSL 2017: Points table & team standings

It was the long wait in the third interruption when the match was reduced to 16 overs. Tamim was then playing on 32 while Maqsood on 16. After Zalmi’s batsmen returned to the field, Tamim smashed 3 sixes and a four with Maqsood tagging along with a six.

Zalmi took Zulfiqar Babar for a ride and ended their drought for runs with 11 runs from that over. Thisara Perera, however, kept Tamim and Maqsood on toes conceding just 4 runs in the final over.

Brief scores:

Peshawar Zalmi 117 for 3 in 16 overs (Tamim Iqbal 62*, Sohaib Maqsood 30*; Hasan Khan 1 for 8) vs Quetta Gladiators (no result)
