Karachi: Pakistan Super League (PSL) Chairman Najam Sethi has revealed that the PSL is all set to use  the Decision Review System (DRS) in its playoff matches, thus becoming the first T20 league in the history of cricket to use technology. Announcing the same via his Twitter account, Sethi wrote, “Another first from HBL PSL. DRS to be used in the playoff matches.” The development came in the wake of multiple poor on-field judgments made by umpires during the ongoing tournament.

As a result, the DRS will allow the teams to question the on-field umpire’s decision, the Dawn reported. Under the DRS technology, both teams will be allowed a limited number of unsuccessful challenges before they will be barred from requesting any more referral for the rest of the innings. In Play-offs, Quetta will take on Peshawar at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Tuesday while Islamabad United will face Karachi Kings in the second match at the same venue a day after.

Quetta and Peshawar both have talent in abundance and have been consistent with their performance throughout the group stages; hence were rewarded with the top two positions in the table. The Sarfraz Ahmed-led Quetta Gladiators surged up till the second spot due to consistent batting from Rilee Rossouw and Kevin Pietersen. The team which will end up on the losing side in the first qualifying match will be playing against the winner of Islamabad United and Karachi Kings clash in the third Qualifying Round game which is to be played on March 3.
