The Indian Premier League (IPL) commends the bowler with the most wickets with The Purple Cap. The Purple Cap is circulated amongst the top performers with the ball throughout the T20 tournament as a token of admiration for the best bowler.

 

Delhi Daredevils’ pacer Morne Morkel is the current holder of The Purple Cap (25 wickets). 

 

Purple Cap winners of previous IPL seasons

 

IPL 4 Lasith Malinga (MI) – 27 wickets

 

IPL 3 Pragyan Ojha (DC) – 21 wickets

 

IPL 2 RP Singh (DC) – 23 wickets

 

IPL 1 Sohail Tanvir (RR) – 22 wickets

 

IPL 2012 will be played at 12 venues over 54 days in India. Starting from April 4, 2012 to May 27, 2012 there will be 72 matches in the fifth season of IPL. The IPL schedule has the nine franchises (teams) playing in this fifth edition.
