Rahat Ali leads Pakistan’s fightback as Sri Lanka go to lunch at 55/3 in 3rd Test, Day 3 at Pallekele

Sri Lanka have a big lead, but Pakistan will look to restrict them.

Sri Lanka go to lunch on Day three of the third Test on 55 for three, leading Pakistan by 118 runs against Pakistan at Pallekele. Rahat Ali picked up two out of the three wickets to fall. Ehasn Adil was the other wicket-taker. Pakistan were bowled out for 215 after they managed to add just six runs to their overnight score. Sarfraz Ahmed remained unbeaten on 78. Sri Lanks’s hero from the first innings Dimuth Karunaratne weas the first one to go or just 10. Kaushal Silva and Lahiru Thirimanne failed to get big runs once again as they fell for Ehasn and Rahat respectively to leave the hosts in a spot of bother. Rains once again interrupted play and there was a 20-minutee break before play resumed once again. New batsman Angelo Mathews has looked good so far in his run-a-ball 12 and even his partner Upul Tharanga is scoring with over a strike rate of 100. Yasir Shah has not got an opportunity to bowl yet. He will surely trouble the Sri Lankan batsmen once he gets the ball after lunch. Yasir picked up five wickets in the first innings and was key in ensuring that Sri Lanka did not get a big total. Sri Lanka in their first innings were bowled out for 278, despite of a century from Karunaratne.

On Day One, Pakistan had won the toss and elected to field first. Both teams have made four changes to their playing XI. Sri Lanka are without Kumar Sangakkara in this Test but will be available for the upcoming series against India.
