In the seventh match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) were kept in the hunt with some tremendous power-hitting and improvisation of Glenn Maxwell, which took Punjab to 102 for two in just 12 overs.
After Glen Maxwell’s early carnage, Rajasthan wrested back advantage in the eight and the ninth overs with some tight bowling. Pravin Tambe followed suit by restricting Punjab for just four runs in the tenth over. The eleventh over of Rajat Bhatia was a different story altogether. Maxwell treated the Delhi medium-pacer with utter disdain with two reverse sweeps that found the boundary and thereby reached his half-century. There was a third reverse sweep off the fifth delivery and Rajasthan were rattled. There were more boundaries in store with Dhawal Kulkarni feeling the heat. A four of third man of the first delivery but Maxwell’s skills were on full display with a three consecutive fours that left the Rajasthan camp scratching their heads.
Earlier, Punjab won the toss and elected to field in match seven of IPL 2014. Punjab have brought in Murali Kartik in place of all-rounder Rishi Dhawan and Australian batsman Steven Smith comes his place of his veteran compatriot Brad Hodge, who misses this game due to a sickness.
