Saurashtra’s skipper Jaydev Shah argued that the inexperience of not playing on bowling tracks hurt his team, when they lost the Ranji Trophy final to Mumbai. He also said that Mumbai’s bowlers made Saurashtra’s batsmen look ordinary.

“Credit to the Mumbai bowlers who made our batsmen look ordinary. They bowled well throughout the match. Dhawal Kulkarni, in particular, bowled some outstanding deliveries which we could not negotiate,” he was quoted as saying by bcci.tv

“This was our first final. We will learn how to perform in big games and we have to practice batting on seaming tracks to come back harder. Next year will see to it that we don’t make the mistakes we made this time,” Shah added.

Mumbai had a firm grip on the game after they bowled Saurashtra out for 148 on the opening day. Mumbai added 68 runs to their overnight score to close innings at 355 before their bowlers ran through Saurashtra’s batting.

With Saurashtra reeling at 34 for seven, it seemed the match would end earlier than it did. Saurya Sanandiya (16) and Dharmendrasinh Shandilya (22) hung on for a while but the inevitable happened 40 minutes after the tea break.

Besides Kulkarni’s sterling effort, Mumbai captain Ajit Agarkar took four wickets.

“Conceding the first-innings lead was crucial. There was psychological pressure after conceding lead and they outplayed us in the second innings.”

“Our batsmen didn’t make any mistake. It’s just that they bowled good line and length,” he concluded.
