Karnataka end the third day of the Ranji Trophy 2013-14 final with a huge lead of 169 runs. Skipper R Vinay Kumar is batting on eight while Shreyas Gopal is on nine. They would look to get some runs quickly on the fourth day morning and put more pressure on Maharashtra.
On the other hand, Maharashtra will be disappointed with their effort on the field. While the bowlers looked ineffective with Karnataka batsmen scoring runs at ease, the dropped chances surely have hurt them in this summit clash.
Samad Fallah returns to trouble the Karnataka side once again. The left-arm pacer traps Amit Verma in front of the wicket to provide his side some much-needed breakthrough. Karnataka are now 156 runs ahead with three wickets left.
OUT! A Verma 29(102)
Chirag Khurana gets his man! Karun Nair tries to reverse sweep a ball that was pitched outside the off-stump, but edges it and Maharashtra’s wicketkeeper-captain Rohit Motwani takes a sharp catch to end his stay at the crease. Karnataka’s lead is of 142 runs.
OUT! K Nair 44(118)
Karun Nair and Amit Verma seem to be under no threat as they are slowly helping their side to extend their lead. Karnataka are 132 runs ahead in the first innings.
Anupam Sanklecha is introduced into the attack but fails to make the breakthrough so far in the innings. Chirag Khurana is operating from the other end but he too looks ineffective. CM Gautam walks in with Karnataka leading by 75 runs.

Karnataka’s first innings lead is past 50 now. Manish Pandey is batting on 20 off 44 balls with the help of three boundaries, while on the other end is Karun Nair, batting on one.
Robin Uthappa is out! The right-handed Karnataka batsman chases one well outside the off-stump and hits in the air, as Maharashtra’s substitute fielder Rahul Tripathi takes a simple catch off Mundhe, who takes his second wicket of the day. Karnataka are 40 runs ahead with seven wickets in hand.
OUT! R Uthappa 78(108)
Karnataka take lunch at 343 for two, with Robin Uthappa (70) and Manish Pandey (11) at the crease. The lead is of 38 runs now, and Karnataka will aim to pile up a huge first innings score to strengthen their case in this game. KL Rahul is caught behind by Maharashtra captain Rohit Motwani as Karntaka lose their second wicket of the day. Rahul tried to slash a ball well outside the off-stump and got a faint edge. Rahul departs after scoring 131, studded with 13 boundaries and two sixes. Karnataka lead by 17 runs.
Karnataka have taken lead in the first innings. Lokesh Rahul and Robin Uthappa have lead their recovery well after the early loss this morning, as the two have added 83 runs for the second wicket. Uthappa, who came to bat after Ganesh Satish’s fall, has batted well to reach 57 not out off 76 balls. KL Rahul has meanwhile completed 1,000 runs in this season.
Karnataka batsmen are looking comfortable at the crease. The Maharashtra bowlers haven’t been impressive with the new ball, whole one opportunity was missed. Karnataka now trail by just 10 runs.
Robin Uthappa gets a reprieve! The right-handed Karnataka batsman slashes hard and gets an edge, that flies between the first and the second slip fielders. Anupam Sanklecha and Maharashtra would be disappointed with their effort as the new ball, which was taken in the 81st over, had produced an opportunity for them.
Karnataka batsmen have started to open up against the Maharashtra bowler. Both Rahul and Uthappa have slammed couple of sixes and have quickly reduced the gap to 44 runs. Karnataka seems to be recovering well after an early jolt in the first over, when they lost Ganesh Satish without any addition to their overnight total.

Satish, who was unbeaten on 117, told the media after the end of day’s play said, “Obviously, I was a little disappointed when I was left out. So, I made up my mind that when I get the opportunity I will make full use of it. There are a lot of team-mates who backed me, who believed in me. My parents have been a constant support and it was really helpful.”
