Ranji Trophy 2013-14 quarter-finals: Karnataka move into semi-finals with 94-run victory over Uttar Pradesh

Karnataka have moved into the semi-final of the Ranji Trophy 2013-14 by beating Uttar Pradesh by 94 runs. In the fourth innings, Uttar Pradesh were set a target of 333 to win the game, but were bowled out for 240.

 

In the first innings, Karnataka had scored 349 thanks to tons from Robin Uthappa, Karun Nair and CM Gautam. Uttar Pradesh then scored 221 thanks to 92 from Parvinder Singh and a fifty from Chawla. Later, Karnataka were bowled out for 204 with Lokesh Rahul carrying his bat through the innings for 92.

 

The fourth day started with Uttar Pradesh being 55 for one. The overnight batsmen Tanmay Srivastav and Ali Murtuza started decently well. However, R Vinay Kumar first dismissed Srivastav and then Mohammed Kaif was out for his second duck in the game.

 

There was a bit of a recovery, but then Murtuza and Prashant Gupta in quick succession before Chawla helped them move past 150.

 

Chawla continued playing an attacking brand of cricket and was helping Uttar Pradesh recover. However, soon after they crossed 200, they lost Ekalavya Dwivedi. After that, there was only one result as Chawla too lost his wicket and Uttar Pradesh were bowled out for 238 runs.
