Hyderabad: Former Uttar Pradesh middle-order batsman Pravinder Singh scored his 12th first-class hundred as he prevented Hyderabad from registering an outright victory in a Ranji Trophy group C encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad. Starting the day at 25 for no loss after being enforced follow-on, Tripura reached 294 for five when play was called off. Parvinder scored an unbeaten 104 off 183 balls with 14 boundaries and a six. He was well supported by Mani Shankar Murasingh, who missed his half-century by a single run.

This was after former Bengal opener Arindam Das and his partner Virag Awate (34) added 72 runs for the opening wicket and more importantly consumed 30 overs. The match in itself was inconsequential as Hyderabad stayed at the eighth place and Tripura as usual occupied the last place in the Plate Group (C).

Tripura have suffered many a humiliating defeat in the 2015-16 season of the Ranji Trophy but put up a gritty display to prevent an encore of the same. They must attempt to take some of the confidence from this game into the remaining games and at least try to step the number of innings defeats that have become a common occurrence for them. Parvinder Singh’s innings should be a testimony to the remaining of the batting order who often collapse horribly.

Brief scores:

Hyderabad 548 for five in 173 overs decl. (Hanuma Vihari 219, Bavanaka Sandeep 93; Manisankar Murasingh 2 for 82) drew against Tripura 237 in 82.4 overs (Arindam Das 73, Udiyan Bose 40; Ravi Kiran 3 for 45) and 294 for five in 88 overs (Parvinder Singh 104*, Manisankar Murasingh 49; Himalay Agarwal 2 for 21).
