Lahli: Puneet Yadav smashed an unbeaten 107 to fire Rajasthan to a resounding nine wicket win over Haryana on day four of the Ranji Trophy Group A game here today. The visitors chased down the 158-run target in 38.5 overs after dismissing Haryana for 324 in their second innings. The hosts began the day at 287 for six and 120 runs ahead of the opposition. Veteran Rajasthan pacer picked up a five-wicket haul to do with his four scalps in the first innings.

It was Rajasthan’s first win of the season in seven matches, leaving them with little hope of progressing to the quarterfinals. With the win Rajasthan now have 11 points adjoining their name on the points table and are expectedly lingering in the bottom rung of the Group A table. They will have to pull off something miraculous if they are to qualify.

On the other hand, Haryana are at the bottom of the chart with only six points to go next to their name. In the seven matches they have played three have ended in defeats for them while they have managed draws in the remainder of games. Their chances of making the next round are null. They must now merely focus on trying to better their performances in this season and try to learn from their follies in the next season.

Brief scores:

Rajasthan 279 in 88.3 overs (Puneet Yadav 46, Ashok Menaria 47; Mohit Sharma 5 for 56) and 161 for 1 in 38.5 overs (Puneet Yadav 107) beat Haryana 112 in 52.2 overs (Virender Sehwag 29; Pankaj Singh 4 for 10) and 324 in 121.5 overs (Nitin Saini 146, Mohit Hooda 56; Pankaj Singh 5 for 85) by nine wickets.
