Saurashtra finished Day 2 at 234 for 5 in the Round 9 encounter of the Ranji Trophy 2016-17 against Delhi at Reliance Stadium, Vadodara. Saurashtra have gained a second-innings lead of 89 runs with 5 wickets in hand. Kishan Parmar and Arpit Vasavada are unbeaten on 141 and 25 respectively. Delhi are undoubtedly in command but Saurashtra have fought well in the second innings with Parmar leading the attack. In the second innings Saurashtra had got off to a rocky start as Snell Patel was dismissed for 4 by Navdeep Saini, which was followed by Divyaraj Chauhan’s duck. They were precariously placed at 15 for 2 when Parmar and Sheldon Jackson began the repair. Jackson fell prey to Nitish Rana’s persistence for a well-played 40, while captain Jaydev Shah squandered a golden opportunity as Rana got the better of him for a solitary run.
Prerak Mankad was unfortunate to have been run out for 6, which paved way for Vasavada out in the middle. Parmar and Vasavada have accounted for 104 between them so far, and this partnership will hold the key for Saurashtra on Day 3. Saini and Rana have done a good job so far and Delhi would certainly want Pradeep Sangwan to step up as he was the pick of the bowler in the first innings. Earlier, Delhi rattled Saurashtra for an awful 92 as Sangwan (4 for 25) and Sumit Narwal (4 for 27) wrecked havoc.
Delhi had done a decent job in posting 237 runs on the board and gained a crucial 145-run lead in the first innings; once again, Sangwan was the hero, coming out all guns blazing, smashing a match-changing 75 in 100 balls (6 fours, 4 sixes). So fast was his hitting that Delhi scored only 109 during his stay.
Brief Scores:
Saurashtra 92 and 234 for 5(Kishan Parmar 141, Sheldon Jackson 40; Nitish Rana 2 for 20) lead Delhi 237 (Rishabh Pant 40, Pradeep Sangwan 75; Kushang Patel 5 for 72) by 89 runs.
