Shreevats Goswami did not even take a second to admit his unbeaten knock of 225 in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2016-17 Round 9 clash versus Madhya Pradesh has been his “best effort” in First-Class cricket.  He also admitted to the fact that he no longer thinks about his future in the team due to the presence of Wriddhiman Saha. On Day Two of Bengal vs Madhya Pradesh clash, Bengal finally declared their innings at 475 for 9 and ended day with their opponents reeling at 19 for 1. Bengal still have a humoungous task to enforce a win and stay alive in the tournament.

“I would always want Wriddhiman to play for India,” said a the 27-year-old Goswami with a cheeky smile.  Nonetheless, he made it clear that he is more secured as a cricketer now. “In the last two years, Wriddhi has played a lot for India and occasionally for Bengal. And even when he has played, I have played as a specialist batsman. So I am now more secured in this Bengal set-up. Yes, a few years back I used to think a lot since I am a keeper-batsman. Also the fact that at that point of time the fear of failure used to be there and that can affect your game making you inconsistent. A trend was there that if you don’t score in two matches, you would get dropped. It’s changed now and I feel secured,” Goswami added.

Ask about his third First-Class ton, Goswami said that it was his best knock. “If you ask me that if I would have thought of a total of 475 when we were 207 for 7, I would say ‘No’. My target was at that we should be able to reach 350. But then I went into a zone. The 100 didn’t make me feel elated neither was I overjoyed at 150. It was only when I hit a boundary at 199, I realised that, now this is something serious. But a lot of credit should go to Pragyan (Ojha), Veer (Pratap Singh) and Sayan (Ghosh) for their support. It was unbelievable that we would score 268 for the last three wickets,” concluded Goswami.
