Cricketer-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri dismissed reports that claimed he has decided to end his 22-year-old marriage with wife Ritu and filed for divorce.
Journalist Ayaz Memon, who knows Shastri quite well, tweeted, “Just spoke to Ravi Shastri. Says story about his divorce is bunkum….Shastri says if he`s filed divorce papers, he`d like to see them…”
According to earlier reports swirling in the media, the 50-year-old former India captain has shifted from their seafront home at Worli’s Sportsfield building, which houses several distinguished personalities like Sunil Gavaskar, Ajit Wadekar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Bapu Nadkarni among others, and moved to Churchgate, not far away from Wankhede Stadium.
After 18 years of marriage, Shastri and his wife Ritu were blessed with a daughter just four years ago. Ritu, the bubbly daughter of an Indian army officer and a classical dancer by training, married Shastri after a long courtship.
In his youthful days, a tall and slim Shastri was one of the most dashing looking guys in the country and had a huge female following.
India’s star all-rounder, Shastri had a well-publicized romance with actress Amrita Singh. The actress was earlier romantically involved with another cricketer, Kirti Azad, and later married Saif Ali Khan – the son of Tiger Pataudi and actress Sharmila Tagore. But her wedding, too, ended in divorce in 2004, and Saif went on to marry the glamorous Kareena Kapoor recently after dating Swiss model Rosa Catalano.
The outspoken Shastri is today a very familiar TV personality and is involved with deeply in cricket.
