Ravindra Jadeja, with his 5 for 30 and 2 for 26 in the fourth Test between India and South Africa 2015-16 at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi, has now moved up four spots from 11th to 7th in International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings for bowlers. Jadeja, on a career-best (till then) 693 points before the Test, has now moved up to 789, gaining a whopping 96 points in a single Test. Ravichandran Ashwin, too, was on his career-best of 856 before the Test, and has now reached 871. He continues to hold second spot, but is currently a mere 4 points behind Dale Steyn’s 875 thanks to his 2 for 26 and 5 for 61. Of current Indian bowlers, Harbhajan Singh (765, achieved in December 2002) is the only other bowler to have ever crossed the 750-mark. Morne Morkel, on the other hand, has gone down from 733 to 726. With Jadeja gaining grounds, Morkel has slid from 9th to 10th on ICC rankings, while Vernon Philander has come down to 9th. Steyn (875) and Ashwin (871) are followed by James Anderson and Yasir Shah (tied on 846), Stuart Broad (840), and Trent Boult (809). They are also the only ones with a rating above 800. Ishant Sharma, who was on a rating of 589 and a rank of 20 before the Test, has dropped out of the top 20, making way for Jerome Taylor. Ishant, with 579, is currently 21st on the list.

Ashwin has also moved above Shakib Al Hasan (384) in the ICC Test rankings for all-rounders, thanks to his 7-wicket haul and first-innings 56 at Kotla. Jadeja, with 259, is currently on 6th spot. Broad (315), Philander (298), and Mitchell Starc (260) are the others to make up the top 5.
