Herschelle Gibbs‘s cricketing career had been interrupted by several controversies. The most fateful one was the infamous match-fixing scandal of 2000. Gibbs’ career came to a standstill as he was banned for six months following the incident. Ravichandran Ashwin managed to touch upon Gibbs’ old wounds. On Monday, Ashwin promoted his new pair of shoes, NIKE React, through his Twitter account. Ashwin went on to explain the features of the shoes and expressed his excitement as well.

Gibbs was the first cricketer to react to Ashwin’s tweet. He poked fun at Ashwin:

It did not go well with Ashwin. In fact, he saw no humour in it and revived unwanted memories:

Surely not as fast you did mate, unfortunately I wasn’t as blessed as you were. But I was blessed with a wonderfully ethical mind not to fix games which put food on my plate. https://t.co/G0lLXbiYo9

Gibbs, however, was all calm and decided to end the conversation on a positive note:

Ashwin, realising his mistake a tad late, immediately deleted the tweet and decided to talk it out personally:

This caught the attention of Twitterati who thought Ashwin was frustrated on losing his ODI spot from the Indian squad:

One can only hope that Ashwin’s apology follows and peace prevails.
