Ishant Sharma, the birthday boy and the new member of the 200 Test wickets club has been showered with wishes on social media, with teammates Ravichandran Ashwin, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan being the latest to wish him on Twitter. The fast bowler, who is called “lambe” by the Indian team has turned 27 today, a day after he had earned a match of the match award for his excellent spell in the third and final Test against Sri Lanka at Colombo: a five-wicket haul in the first innings and three wickets in the second where Angelo Mathews became 200th Test victim. Mubaarkein Lambe @ImIshant Wish you a very Happy B’day and Babaji tere te mehar banayi rakhhann..
However, the on-field incident with Dhamika Prasad spoiled his overall superb series by handing him a one Test ban, meaning India will be without his services for the opening Test when they host South Africa later in the year. Sharma is the only fourth Indian pacerman and eighth Indian bowler to reach the milestone of 200 Test wickets, with Javagal Srinath being the last Indian to achieve that feat. Ishant has been outstanding for India over the last couple of years, leading the pace attack and getting important wickets at key moments for India. His best innings bowling figures of 7 for 74 resulted in India’s first Test win at Lord’s since 1986.
The other big names that congratulated Sharma included the likes of VVS Laxman and Harbhajan Singh. “Congrats @ImIshant for your five-wicket haul. Good to see you being rewarded for your commitment and hard work,” Laxman tweeted.
