Ravichandran Ashwin had a great reception when he walked out to lead Dindigul Dragons against Ruby Kanchi Warriors in the Tamil Nadu Premier League Chepauk on 30 th August, Tuesday.  There was lot of speculations if Ashwin would be playing for his team as he had just flown from Florida where India played 2 T20 International matches against West Indies which India lost by 0-1 as the second T20I was a rain washout. Ashwin also recalled how important Chepauk has been for him as he had seen Sachin Tendulkar‘s century live while growing off age. Having flown from USA, Ashwin took to Twitter to confirm his presence by tweeting: “See you at Chepauk tonight!! Hoping for the rains to stay away” to set the twitter ablaze. Acoording to cricbuzz.com, Ashwin started the importance of TNPL saying, “We didn’t have cricket from Chennai Super Kings for the last year and we won’t have it for the next year as well. Though TN is a big state, we haven’t tapped into a lot of talents in the districts. This tournament is an excellent opportunity for them to excel.” READ: KL Rahul, Evin Lewis rise in ICC T20 Rankings

Aswhin also described about how much important Chepauk is for him as he said, “I have a lot of special memories on this ground. As a kid, I remember watching Sachin’s hundred against England in 19921993 series and my 12-wicket haul against Australia in 2013 are some great memories. In fact I would take this ground in my back pocket wherever I go. I have played a lot here for Chennai Super Kings wearing an yellow jersey. It’s a wonderful feeling being here.”

In his first ever match in TNPL as a captain, Ashwin successfully led his side Dindigul Dragons a comprehensive victory over Ruby Ranchi Warriors by 48 runs as the Right arm off-break bowler scored 15 runs with his bat and bowled an economical spell of 6 runs in 2 overs with 1 wicket to help his side.
