Riki Wessels, son of Kepler Wessels, was saved from getting hit on the face by a Kane Richardson delivery during the first semi-final of the Big Bash League 2014-15 between Sydney Sixers and Adelaide Strikers at Adelaide Oval.
Riki, who plays for Sydney Sixers, opened the batting with Michael Lumb. The Sixers’ captain Moises Henriques won the toss and elected to bat.

In the fourth over, Richardson was given the ball. The fifth ball of the over went and hit Riki in the grill. However, the ball got stuck in the grill of the helmet. Riki was seen kissing the helmet after it saved him from getting hit on the face. There were concerned faces all-round, but he quickly gathered himself.
There have been a lot of debate and controversy over the right kind of helmets being used following the tragic death of Phil Hughes last year end and also Stuart Broad was hit by a Varun Aaron delivery during India’s Test series in England.
