Australian cricketer Rob Quiney announced his retirement from First-Class cricket after being dropped from Victoria’s contract list for 2017-18. Quiney played 2 Tests against South Africa in the famous 2012-13 series. He scored only 9 runs, and his average of 3 remains one of the worst in history. However, Quiney has been a vital cog of the Victoria squad over the past decade. He made his First-Class debut in February 2007 at Hobart and has won five Sheffield Shield titles with the Victorian Bushrangers, the latest being in 2017. A revamped contract list for next summer will see Peter Handscomb captaining the side in place of Matthew Wade, who has left for Tasmania. Quiney, 35, appeared in 96 First-Class games and scored 5,674 runs at 36.84.

“Rob Quiney has been a tremendous figure in Victorian cricket throughout his highly decorated career,” said Shaun Graf, Cricket Victoria’s General Manager of Cricket as per a report on ESPNCricinfo. “He embodies all of Victoria’s values and it’s a testament to his skill and character that he’s been able to achieve so much success as a player, particularly playing in our five most recent Sheffield Shield titles including the three-peat.” ALSO READ: Gilchrist suggests Australia to hand over gloves to Handscomb for Bangladesh tour

Quiney has won several awards in his career for Victoria. This includes the Bill Lawry Medal for being Victoria’s Shield Player of the Year and the Dean Jones medal for his fine showings for Victoria in the One-Day competition in 2011-12. In 2012, he was also named the State Player of the Year at the Allan Border Medal night.
