Rohit Sharma became the second Indian batsman to score a Twenty20 International (T20I) century when he reached the milestone during the first T20I between India and South Africa at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Friday. Rohit also became the second Indian, after Suresh Raina, to complete a century across formats, hitting 12 boundaries and five sixes during his innings, taking 62 deliveries to reach the milestone. India were cruising at a score of 158 for 1 at the end of the 15th over, appearing poised for a major score at the end of their innings in the first match of the ‘Mahatma Gandhi-Nelson Mandela’ series. Raina is the only other batsman to have achieved the milestone in the 20-over format for India, having slammed a 60-ball 101 that contained nine fours and five sixes to propel India to 186 for 5 after 20 overs during the ICC World Twenty20 2010 Group C match against the Proteas. South Africa earlier won the toss, and elected to field first given the dew factor. After a couple of tight early overs, Rohit began to flex his arms and muscle his way through the opposition. Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan was run-out for a score of 3 off 4 balls, with the scoreboard reading 22 for the loss of one wicket after 3.1 overs.
