Rohit Sharma scored his second century in three international innings in the first One-Day International (ODI) between India and South Africa at Green Park, Kanpur, on Sunday. With AB de Villiers scoring an excellent unbeaten 104, South Africa were propelled to a huge score of 303 for 5. Rohit also made a fantastic ton in the first Twenty20 International (T20I) of the series. He got a lot of help from India’s new No. 3 Ajinkya Rahane, who was promoted to bat ahead of Virat Kohli. The Rahane-Rohit stand was worth well over 100, and ensured that India were well on course for their big chase. Live Scorecard: India vs South Africa 2015, 1st ODI at Kanpur

Earlier, de Villiers’ superb unbeaten 104 ensured that the Proteas crossed 300. Even though India’s bowlers frequently picked up wickets, the batsmen scored runs at a fast rate, with Faf du Plessis scoring an excellent fifty. Ravichandran Ashwin, who was playing his 100th ODI, was unable to bowl his full quota of overs after injuring himself while fielding. South Africa won the toss and batted first. Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel made comebacks to the side at the expense of Chris Morris and Kyle Abbott. The Indians brought in Ajinkya Rahane for Ambati Rayudu, Stuart Binny for Akshar Patel, and Amit Mishra for Harbhajan Singh from the T20Is. South Africa won the T20I series 2-0, after the third match was washed out. The five-match ODI series will be followed by a Test series that will feature four matches.
