Coming back to the longest format of cricket after 13 months, Rohit Sharma scored his third Test century to push India‘s score to 610 for 6 before declaration against Sri Lanka. India had three centurions in the innings — Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara and Rohit — and a double-centurion in skipper Virat Kohli as the team accumulated a 405-run lead. Dilruwan Perera emerged as the pick of the bowlers for Sri Lanka with 3 wickets.

Making his debut in 2013, Rohit struck back-to-back hundreds — in Kolkata and Mumbai — but took fours years for the third. Owing to his playing style, Rohit has been on and off in Test cricket. Rohit batted with Kohli to build the third 100-plus partnership of the innings.

Rohit’s last innings was in Indore against New Zealand, where he remained unbeaten at 51.

Rohit’s fans congratulated him on Twitter:

India earlier bundled Sri Lanka for 205 in the match. The series is now squared with the first match being a draw.
