On November 13, 2014, Rohit Sharma blasted his way to 264 — still the highest score in ODIs by far — against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens. Rohit broke the then existing world record of 219, by Virender Sehwag. It was also the fourth double-hundred in ODI history, and all four of them had been by Indians: Rohit himself had a 209 under his belt, while Sachin Tendulkar’s 200* was the first ODI double-ton. Since then, Chris Gayle (215) and Martin Guptill (237*) have both joined the list. Rohit’s onslaught lasted 173 balls, and he hit 33 fours and 9 sixes. He dominated an Indian total of 404 for 9. In response Sri Lanka collapsed to 251, thus conceding a 0-4 lead. India would go on to whitewash Sri Lanka 5-0 in the series.
