Bangladesh‘s fast bowler Rubel Hossain, who was barred from travelling to South Africa, will now allowed to board the flight. He is expected to reach Potchefstroom on Thursday. The airlines had earlier refused to issue boarding pass to Rubel. In a press conference held earlier, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan clarified that Rubel was victim of mistaken identity. Apparently a person with the same name and identity is not allowed to enter South Africa. The confusion affected Rubel’s departure to the country, hence missing out on a practice game.
BCB’s media manager spoke to ESPNcricinfo on the development, “The security clearance of Rubel has arrived and he will be taking the evening flight.” On the confusion of identities, Hassan assured Cricket South Africa (CSA) that they were two different people.
“We have continuously been in contact with Cricket South Africa, who are also in touch with their home ministry. We have received the photo and name of another “Rubel Hossain”, whose date of birth also matches with the player. But this person is barred from entering South Africa, so we have confirmed to them that it is not the cricketer Rubel Hossain. I think they got confused, but the photos don’t match,” Hassan added.
