Sabbir Rahman scored a tremendous half-century off just 38 deliveries for Bangladesh against Sri Lanka in Match 5 of Asia Cup 2016 at Dhaka on Sunday. Sabbir came in to bat in the first over of the match after Angelo Mathews trapped Mohammad Mithun LBW for a two-ball duck. Nuwan Kulasekara had Soumya Sarkar out caught by Mathews in the very next over to leave Bangladesh reeling at 2 for 2 after 2 overs. Sabbir struck 6 fours and 2 sixes in his first 50 runs, getting to his landmark with a big six off the bowling of off-spinner Shehan Jayasuriya. Sabbir was watchful against the spinners, and made sure that his excellent start did not get wasted with silly batting. Earlier, as AFP reported, Sri Lanka opened their campaign with a 14-run win over the UAE while Bangladesh defeated the same opponents by 51 runs after a 45-run loss to India in the tournament opener.Sri Lanka rested skipper Lasith Malinga, who is still recovering from a knee injury. Test captain Angelo Mathews is leading the team in his absence. Thisara Perera was included in their only change while Bangladesh fielded an unchanged squad. The umpires for the match are India’s Anil Chaudhary and Shozab Raza from Pakistan, while the TV umpire is Anisur Rahman from Bangladesh. The match referee is Jeff Crowe of New Zealand.
