Sachin Tendulkar‘s brother Ajit on Thursday heaped praised on the former India cricketer, who is celebrating his 41st birthday today. Ajit said there was never an evening when they did not get to hear good things about Sachin during his formative years, and added that the latter was known for scoring centuries.

Ajit said, “Sachin has been known to score tons. The first ton he ever scored he was 12. It was a two day Harris Shield game. First day on 96. So he was really restless. Instead of going to his uncles place, he came home straightaway. He was so anxious that he kept talking irrelevant things. My parents handled it well and allowed him to say whatever he says. Finally he fell asleep. Fortunately, he scored it in the next over.”

“There was one instance when he played for 10 consecutive days. At no stage he said he was tired or gave an impression that he was tired. I remember the dialogue before in under-15 zonal tournament. He asked what next? I said you may make in West Zone team. He went on asking and I went on saying he may be picked for a higher ground. It did happen and he played in every age group in 1986-87. At the end then he was in the Mumbai probables at 14,” he continued.

Ajit added, “When he was 11, he got his first half century. Mr Gondhalkar was umpiring and was impressed. He called Achrekar sir that night and told him that Sachin would play for India in a few years. In five years, Sachin played for India, but sadly Gondhalekar sir did not see it as he passed away. All those years were full of exciting and every evening we got to hear exciting things from him.”
