Sandeep Patil, former Indian cricketer and selector, has recently raised finger over the Cricket Advisory Committee’s (CAC) abilities in choosing the right coach for the team. CAC, comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, recently named Ravi Shastri as Head Coach, Rahul Dravid as the overseas batting consultant and Zaheer Khan as the bowling consultant for Team India. While respecting their contributions towards Indian cricket as players, Patil pointed out that none of them have adequate coaching experience, which fails to justify why they were given the responsibility to choose a coach for India. Patil told mid-day: “I wouldn’t even call it warped. I’d say it’s all wrong. Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman are absolute legends as players and have done great things for the country, but none of them have coached a team. Do coaches pick umpires and vice-versa? It’s like passing the buck, and a bit like saying, ‘Look, we have identified the next coach and now it’s up to you.’ Was this all done to play safe because of the Lodha Panel recommendations?”

Shastri’s term as Team India’s head coach starts July 23 and will last till ICC World Cup 2019. To make things more complicated, Shastri is learnt not to be happy with Zaheer as bowling coach and has apparently recommended the name of Bharat Arun, who had served as the same from 2014 to 2016, as per reports.
