Sachin Tendulkar’s life moments were illustrated through ‘Unknown Sachin Tapes’ session at the Times Literature Festival, New Delhi yesterday. Many of the moments narrated were not known to Tendulkar’s fans. Some were revealed by Tendulkar himself, others by Boria Majumdar, co-author of Tendulkar’s autobiography ‘Playing it my way’ . One of the moments shown in the tapes was when Tendulkar had announced his retirement two years back at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Tendulkar was alone in the dressing room when Virat Kohli came in. Kohli was carrying a pouch in his hands which contained some threads. Kohli gave it to Tendulkar saying, “I want you to have this. It was given to me by my father. I am giving this to you.” Kohli then touched Tendulkar’s feet. Tendulkar said “arrey tujhe toh galey lagna hai (Kohli should hug instead)”. Kohli then said that he will miss Tendulkar before going out of the dressing room. Sachin Tendulkar: T20 right format to globalise cricket
According to a report by Times of India, Tendulkar had met Ian Chappell at a gym in Durban couple of years back. Seeing Tendulkar exercising, Chappell said, “So this is the secret.” Tendulkar replied, “You guys conveniently change your tone. Your brother [Greg Chappell] created all the problem. He took Indian cricket at least five years behind.” In one of the scenes Tendulkar expressed his opinion on being given the captaincy, “First time I was captain I felt there wasn’t enough support from the selectors.” Another occasion depicted was when the batting legend was suffering from tennis elbow; he had called his wife Anjali saying, “Get a video camera. You have never seen me in so much pain.” READ: Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun produces all-round performance in U-16 game in Mumbai
The tape brought to surface a special moment in the legend’s life when a child suffering from cerebral palsy (paralysis caused due to prenatal brain defect) took Sachin’s bat and played three balls. He went back into paralysis after it. In the tape, Tendulkar was coaxed to tell why he married Anjali and no one else, he said, “She was the only one I met. I was busy playing for India.”
