As Bangladesh play Afghanistan in the series opener, star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan becomes the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh across formats. Shakib had 147 wickets in Tests and 65 wickets in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) to top the list for his country, and as he picked up the wicket of Shabir Noori, he became the highest Bangladesh wicket-taker in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) with 207 wickets beating Abdur Rezzak. He thus becomes the only player in the world to top the bowling charts in all formats for a nation. Shakib is currently the top ranked all-rounder in ODIs as per the rankings of International Cricket Council (ICC).
Bangladesh did not have a very good start to their batting as ace Afghanistan apcer Dawlat Zadran removed opener Soumya Sarkar in the very first over. However, Tamim Iqbal was one player who stood there like a rock and kept things going. Initially he got support from Imrul Kayes but it was Mahmudullah who built up the bigger partnership with Tamim. The two looked in sync and quite comfortable batting with each other. Tamim’s steady knock of 80 runs helped Bangladesh survive the early loss of wicket while Mahmudullah’s knock of 62 off 74 came as the run booster. Later on, it was Shakib who shone with the bat.
Shakib played a quickfire 48 off 40 deliveries. His shots looked picturesque and he looked extremely confident batting against Afghanistan. He fell for a Dawlat Zadran delivery and failed to get to his half-century. Bangladesh posted a target of 266 for Afghanistan to chase losing all their wickets and playing full 50 overs.
