Shane Watson and Ajinkya Rahane lead Rajasthan Royals charge against Kolkata Knight Riders
Apr 29, 2014
Shane Watson and Ajinkya Rahane led the way to a big total in Rajasthan Royals’ game against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014. After conceding 17 off the previous over, Sunil Narine was brought on by KKR. He bowled a typically tight over, spinning the ball both ways. He cramped Watson for room while playing the pull, but didn’t cause much trouble to either batsmen. Watson was able to get a boundary off the final delivery, hitting one down to wide long off.
Piyush Chawla, into his third over, induced a false shot from Rahane, but the batsmen got two runs for it. Off the third ball, Shane Watson took him on, clubbing him over midwicket for a boundary. Watson was looking very good, as he smashed the next ball down the ground to collect two more. The signs were ominous for KKR, as Watson drove the next ball through covers to get his second boundary in three balls. The last ball ended with Watson going for a pull to a ball not short enough. Luckily for Watson and RR, it took the inside edge and went down to the fine leg boundary. Huge over for the Royals.
Shakib came in to bowl the 13th over, and once against started well. He was giving the ball decent flight and inviting the batsmen to take him on. Rahane and Watson in turn kept calm and played off Shakib’s last over. He finished with impressive figures of 2-0-23-1.
Earlier, Rahane and Watson were looking good in Rajasthan Royals’ game against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014. Chawla came in to bowl the 12th over, and started off well. He wasn’t spinning the ball a lot, but his line and length was tight. He conceded just four off the over.
Shakib was greeted by a Shane Watson boundary off the first ball, before Rahane stepped out to loft him over covers for another boundary off the last delivery to make it ten runs off the over.
Piyush Chawla bowled a good over after conceding a boundary off the second ball. He kept things tight and bowled with loop and flight. Just six off it.
Earlier, Sanju Samson had been dismissed in Rajasthan Royals’ game against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014. Earlier in the innings, they had lost the wicket of Karun Nair. Since then, Ajinkya Rahane and Samson had batted really well and have helped Rajasthan recover. In 8.3 overs, Rajasthan are 54 for two.
Kolkata captain Gautam Gambhir has shuffled his bowlers around. Sunil Narine came on to bowl in the fifth over, but then he was taken off. Samson was bowled by Shakib in the ninth over as a ball hit his body and went back onto the stumps.
Earlier, Rajasthan won the toss and elected to bat. Rajasthan brought back James Faulkner into the side. Even Iqbal Abdulla came into the team. Plus, Kolkata got back R Vinay Kumar, Shakib Al Hasan, Manvinder Bisla in place of Piyush Chawla, Chris Lynn and Yusuf Pathan. Samson had hit Morne Morkel for 20 runs in an over to set the tone for the innings.
