Shane Watson took a hat-trick during Rajasthan Royals‘ Indian Premier League (IPL) 2014 game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Sardar Patel Motera Stadium, Hyderabad. Watson accounted for the wickets of Shikhar Dhawan, Moises Henriques and Karn Sharma during that display and that helped Rajasthan limit Hyderabad to 134 for nine. Let us revisit how the hat-trick unfolded. It is quite interesting that Watson took a split hat-trick as he took his first wicket in the fourth over and the other two when he came back in the 17th over. Ball 6, Over 4: Dhawan was going great guns and smashing everything in his zone. Watson came on to complete the over and got one to stay low and it just clipped Dhawan’s off-stump. That was a big breakthrough in this match as Hyderabad lost momentum thereafter.

Ball 1, Over 17: Watson returned after the likes of Pravin Tambe and Rajat Bhatia had done their job. Hyderabad needed quick runs in the last four overs with Henriques and Irfan Pathan in the centre. But, Henriques smashed the first ball of the 17th down the throat of Ajinkya Rahane at long-off.

Ball 2, Over 17: Karn Sharma was the new man in and Watson got one to angle across him. he got an edge onto it which was taken by Sanju Samson behind the stumps. This is how he completed the hat-trick.

Watson becomes the second Rajasthan bowler in IPL 2014 to take a hat-trick. In their previous IPL 2014 match, Pravin Tambe had taken a hat-trick against Kolkata Knight Riders.
