Playing their first practice match of the tour of England, India have reached 86 for the loss of a solitary wicket at the end of 25 overs against Leicestershire on Day 1 of the 3-day practice match at Grace Road, Leicester. Shikhar Dhawan and Gautam Gambhir are stringing a small partnership after the departure of Murali Vijay.
Gambhir has looked confident so far, and so has Dhawan. But the two batsmen have struggled to rotate strike much so far. They have dealt in five boundaries in the last 10 overs, but have also endured quite a few maiden overs. Vijay was looking good in the middle before he fell to Anthony Ireland, as he handed a rather easy catch to Angus Robson.
Gambhir, in particular, will be looking to score big and stamp his credentials for a place in the playing XI when India play their first Test of the tour on July 9.
